Ampelman Portraits
Berlin, traffic lights, in between a road to cross. We are waiting for the light to turn green or maybe not. We are going in opposite directions but somehow we frame each other in a mutual glimpse of contact. Are we looking at each other? Is there enough time? What are we thinking? Some inner thought we keep going over.
I am often in one of these situations at the traffic lights where I picture the scene in front of me as a play of some kind. One which shows everytime with different characters and everytime with a different role for the script: the couple from behind with the same t-shirt but different colours, the sleeveless guy annoyed by sun, the businness man with his inconfondibile fast pace and the family portrait brightened up by the light of the sunset.
These series of street photo portraits of everyday people is a way to express all those odds feelings that cross my mind during that moment. Shall I cross the street now? Shall I smile? Shall I make a face or not?
All the photos have the same format (8:5) taken without making the people notice me with the camera (a DSLR with a 40mm mount on) upside down using the strap.
